Ethan Hamilton signs on loan from Manchester United

16 August 2019

We are delighted to announce the signing of Ethan Hamilton on loan from Manchester United.

The 20-year-old joins from the Red Devils for the duration of the 2019/20 season.

Hamilton spent the second-half of last season on loan at Rochdale making 14 appearances and scoring four goals.

And he says this is another brilliant opportunity to make his mark at League One level.

“I needed to get out and play first team football to keep developing and moving forward and I’m really grateful for the opportunity to be able to come to Southend and do that.

“League One is a great league and there’s loads of competition in it and I can’t wait to get going and working with the group.”

Hamilton impressed while on loan at Rochdale and with the experience of already playing in League One, he's hoping to hit the ground running at Blues.

“It was different coming away from U23s football and it was a great experience for me, one that I really enjoyed.

“I just want to play the best I can, give my all for the team and that’s what I want to do.

“I’m quite all action. I like to get around the pitch and affect the game the best I can.

“The games are coming thick and fast and hopefully we can get on a bit of a run and bounce into the next games.

“I’m ready and raring to go. I’ve been working hard and that win on Tuesday was great so hopefully we can carry that on into the next games.”

Blues boss Kevin Bond, who could call on Hamilton for tomorrow's game against Lincoln, was keen to add to his midfield with the Manchester United Academy product.

“I’ve been aware of Ethan for quite a while actually and I’m delighted to get him in," said Bond.

“He’s a strong boy, nice size, competitive, can get in the box as well.

“He’s got experience of the level as well having been on loan at Rochdale last season.

“I know they were massively keen to get him back again so we’ve done well to get him.

“He’ll be good with the ball and he’ll be good for us without the ball. Obviously it’s an area of the pitch that we needed strengthening and he’ll certainly bring a lot of quality.”

Ethan will wear number 16 and is available to feature against Lincoln.
