Who get's your vote for the Goal of the Month in April?
We've selected four goals from the First Team games in April and the nominees for the Edward Carter Solutions GOTM award are as follows:
Goal A - Luke Hyam vs Fleetwood Town - Saturday 6th April 2019
Late on in the game Southend won themselves a free-kick wide on the left, and with Blues throwing bodies forward they were rewarded by retaking the lead. The set-piece fell to Jason Demetriou whose blocked shot was straight into the path of Luke Hyam who hammered the ball home from inside the penalty area to once again restore the advantage and spark wild jubilation from Blues loyal supporters.
Goal B - Simon Cox vs Walsall - Friday 19th April 2019.
Having struggled with the final ball throughout the firs-half of the Walsall game, all it took was an old-fashioned long ball from the back as Oxley’s long punt upfield was misjudged by Connor Johnson. Simon Cox anticipated the defender’s struggles to nip in and round Dunn before slotting the ball into the net to make it 1-0.
Goal C - Sam Mantom vs Burton Albion - Monday 22nd April 2019.
Cox was on hand to provide Sam Mantom with the opportunity to put Blues in front which he duly took. Cox’s low cross from the right found the run of the Southend skipper who slid in to score from close range and give Kevin Bond’s side the lead.
Goal D - Timothee Dieng vs Burton Albion - Monday 22nd April 2019.
After being scythed down by Stephen Quinn right on the edge of the area, Kightly dusted himself off to clip the ball in at the far post and find the head of Timothee Dieng who headed beyond Bywater and put Southend, seemingly, on course for their first win in 16 games.
