Ahead of the final away game of the 2018/19 season, we look at a few storylines that you might want to look for ahead of kick-off...
Monday’s 3-2 win over Burton Albion marked our first three points since the 4-0 victory away to Bradford City on the 19th January. Goals from Sam Mantom, Harry Bunn and Timothee Dieng helped the side win for the first time since Kevin Bond’s arrival, but that win had very much been coming. Decisions certainly went against Blues against Walsall and a late contentious penalty prevented three points there, much like it did at Fleetwood. So, it’s just one defeat under Bond and three performances which deserved three points, despite only getting them against Burton. The team have been playing well and the confidence from the win on Easter Monday will send Blues into another massive game on a high.
Rochdale are a team who were in the same relegation battle until last weekend’s crucial win over Bristol Rovers. Only two losses in their past nine games has moved them into a position in the standings which makes them all but safe from the drop. In those nine games, only one of those defeats came at home.
With the team going into their last away game of the season, Kevin Bond will be toying with the idea of keeping the same side for the third time on the bounce. Rob Kiernan has been declared fit after coming off at half-time against Burton Albion, and with Dru Yearwood and Luke Hyam available the centre of midfield might be an area to make a change. Hyam did well when coming on, as did Timothee Dieng who scored what turned out to be the match winner, so there are options for Bond to ponder.
