In the last Southend United Ex Players (SUEPA) event of the season, on Monday we welcome back to Roots Hall Roy McDonough and a number of his former Shrimper team mates...

Roy was at Roots Hall in two spells from 1983-84 and 1985-90, scoring 34 times in 208 appearances. Known for his 'all-action' approach which often caught the attention of referees (!), in his second spell Roy formed a great partnership with David Crown who benefited greatly from the robust playing style of his strike partner.

He hopes to be accompanied on the day by some former team mates including Andy Dixon, Dave Martin, Steve Hatter and Jason Cook. They will all be introduced on the pitch shortly before kick-off and will then be in the Far Post Bar (East Stand) after the match where they will be happy to sign autographs.

On Monday evening Roy will also be hosting an evening of tales from his times as a footballer at The Palace Theatre in Southend, tickets for which can still be purchased by using the link here.

Roy's book, 'Red Card Roy', has received many plaudits since it was first published in 2012 and has recently been released in paperback – copies will be on sale at The Palace Theatre.
