Big Preview: Rochdale vs Southend United

26 April 2019

Rochdale vs Southend United...

Southend face another pivotal weekend in their fight for survival as they travel to the Crown Oil Arena to take on Rochdale in the penultimate game of the season tomorrow afternoon.

Easter Monday’s win over Burton Albion lifted Blues out of the relegation zone and lifted the spirits in the camp with Southend hoping another win will be enough to secure their safety.

With 10 coach loads of Blues fans making their way on Saturday morning and over 950 tickets sold in advance, a raucous atmosphere is expected in Lancashire, but Rochdale won’t give Kevin Bond’s side an easy ride.

The Dale are in good form having picked up three wins from their last four to put themselves all but safe, five points clear of the drop zone with two games remaining.

Blues boss Kevin Bond could name an unchanged line up for the third game in succession after two impressive performances by Southend against Walsall and Burton Albion.

Bond confirmed that Rob Kiernan will be available at weekend, that’s despite the defender – turned midfielder in recent weeks - being pulled off at half-time in the win over Burton Albion.

Jason Demetriou is out as he begins his recovery from knee surgery while Blues continue to assess the fitness of Harry Lennon and Stephen Humphrys, both of whom didn’t feature over Easter.

Matt Done and Oliver Rathbone are in line for a recall after both were rested against Bristol Rovers on Monday, with Done only featuring in the final 23 minutes while Rathbone was kept to the bench.

Rochdale will also check on the availability of both Kgosietsile Ntlhe and Ryan McLaughlin after the two defenders missed the Easter Monday trip to the Memorial Stadium through injury.

Kevin Bond, Southend United Manager:

"We just have to show a committed and concentrated performance and we need to be completely focused on the job.

"We’re capable of getting the result and we need to have a big focus and know the job that we need to do, I’m pretty sure that the team from an effort and endeavour perspective feel confident that they will give all of that.

"We just need to not do anything silly and get our fair share of luck and work hard then we will get something from the game."

Tickets will come off sale from the Blues Box Office at midday on Friday and any tickets that haven't been collected will be sent to Rochdale for collection on the day.

Tickets are also available on the day at the same prices as advertised - cash turnstiles or card from the Ticket Office. All bank cards, with the exception of America Express, are accepted.
