Southend United and Southend United Community & Educational Trust are proud to be supporting Isla Caton's fight against Neuroblastoma.
When Isla was only two-years-old she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that affects children called Neuroblastoma, with around one in every 7,000 kids being affected at some time.
Following her diagnosis Isla went through an intense 15-months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital after the aggressive cancer spread to her bones and marrow.
However, in September 2018, Isla’s mother Nicola revealed that her daughter had suffered a setback, and this led to Isla undergoing 42 hours of radiotherapy and removal of a brain tumour.
Since then, her brave fight against the disease has continued with the support of her family from Hornchurch in Essex, and football fans from all over the world who have managed to raise £375,000 that will go towards the cost of specialist treatment immunotherapy which involves the injection of an antibody not currently available in this county which will be carried out at a specialist cancer centre in the United States.
Currently, Isla is in Barcelona undergoing a brand-new trail that may clear her bones of the cancer and enable Isla and her family to continue with the original treatment plan. With the amazing ongoing support £452,373 of the £600,000 required to cover the treatment has been raised, but we desperately need your help to do all we can to help give Isla the best chance. Any loose change or amount, no matter how small, will help make a difference!
To help raise money the Isla's family are holding a 24-hour bike ride event at A.B.C Gym in Leigh.
If you would like to get involved and take part in the spin class, please get in touch with A.B.C Gym so you can be added for an hour slot on their spreadsheet. They have 24 bikes running for the full 24 hours.
We know you can’t spin for 24 hours, so this is how it works...we are asking that you buy a bike for an hour. The family are asking for a minimum sponsor for the bike to be £10.00 per hour on 18th April 2019.
The address for the gym is - A.B.C Gym, Unit 1, 55 Progress Road Leigh-On-Sea, SS9 5PR.
We as Southend United Football Club and SUCET have kindly donated the below items towards the raffle to help raise the final sum of money for Isla.
