Southend United NCS Summer Graduation 2018

12 September 2018

On both Monday 10th September and Tuesday 11th September Southend United Community & Educational Trust held their annual NCS summer graduation at the Palace Theatre in Westcliff...

On the first day, they celebrated wave one and two's achievements and on the Tuesday wave three and four.

Each team leader gave a speech about their group, sharing some great memories of the different weeks including Kingwood, Canterbury, and their groups social action projects.

NCS consists of a three to four-week programme, in which young people spend a week at Kingswood Activity Centre then a week at Canterbury University gaining independence skills, finishing with a week, or two, at Roots Hall working on their social action project and helping the community.

Hayley, NCS Coordinator had this to say about the summer.

“Summer 2018 has seen SUCET deliver the National Citizen Service programme to our biggest cohort yet, tripling our numbers from 2017.

"It’s been challenging at times but incredibly rewarding.

"We have seen 29 external members of staff join the NCS team for the summer, 15 charities assisting with the young people’s Social Action Projects, 283 young people graduating the programme, over £3800 raised for charity and 1000’s of memories made!

"It’s been a crazy summer and we have learnt a lot. On to planning Autumn 2018 and Summer 2019!”
