Prince's Trust Students progress on to study with Blues

17 September 2018

Both Vicki and Matt started with Southend United Community & Educational Trust on the Prince's Trust team programme. On the programme they completed 12 weeks of workshops and work-placed activities which helped them learn new skills and gain the confidence they need to get back into education or get a job...

They have now moved on to SUCET's BTEC Football & Futsal college programme.

During the programme they will work as a team to complete a community project, which will make a positive difference to the place where they live.

They will also take part in an action-packed residential trip, get two weeks’ work experience in something they’re interested in, develop their English and Maths skills and finally as part of the course, SUCET also spend some time developing their interview and CV skills to ensure their confidence is sky-high for when taking the next step in life.

Matt had this to say:

“My previous college was not the right environment for me, I found out about the Prince's Trust Programme through Facebook and contacted Faye.

"My favourite part was defiantly the residential side of the Trust programme.

"I also enjoyed working as part of a team and making new friends.”

“I am really happy that I have progressed on to the BTEC course and I enjoy playing football and studying at the same time. I also enjoy wearing the kit and studying at a professional football ground.”

We also caught up with Vicki who said:

“I was referred to the Prince's Trust programme via Southend Community, I attended a college interview, I didn’t have the grades required so went on to the Prince's Trust Team programme”

“I really enjoyed the programme as it gave me confidence and helped me with skills for interviews, it also helped me to get another chance at Southend Community by helping me to achieve a place on the BTEC Sports programme”

“I am really enjoying the BTEC so far, I like the training, the lessons and I have met new friends”
