History Books: Chairboys vs Blues

28 September 2018

Let’s open the archives and look at the history between Wycombe and Southend...

The first-ever meeting between the two sides took place on Tuesday 2nd September 1997, a game which ended in a 4-1 victory for the Chairboys.

The two sides have met a total of 16 times, with seven wins going to Wycombe, four wins going to Blues and five draws separating the teams.

The last time Blues won away to Wycombe took place during the 2012/13 season when Southend came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Barry Corr and Britt Assombalonga.

We have only faced Wycombe in one cup competition, which was the 1997/98 Football League Trophy; which Blues lost...well you could say we have faced them in two cup competitions and we all know how that game one ended.

Southend United have never gone to Adam’s Park and not scored a goal meaning we have netted eight goals in seven away matches to the Chairboys.

The biggest victory recorded between the two teams took place at Adam’s Park which was the 4-1 victory in 1997, a result which was repeated by Wycombe the last time we visited them, back on Saturday 13th December 2014.

Wycombe were formed in 1887 making them 19 years older than Southend United.
