History Books: Blues vs Sky Blues

18 October 2018

Let's open the archives and dive into the deep history between Southend and Coventry...

Blues are not only currently on a five-game unbeaten run in League One, but also on the same unbeaten run against this weekend's opposition. (W3D2)

The two sides have faced each other a total of 50 times with 20 of those games being won by Southend United, 12 ending in draws and 18 matches being won by Coventry.

We have only faced the Sky Blues in one cup competition which is the English League Cup (Carabao Cup) which Blues have never beaten them in.

A total of 154 goals have been scored in the 50 previous matches played between both sides, 149 of those goals have come in the league meaning the first goalscorer on Saturday will score the 150th league goal between Blues and the Sky Blues.

The first-ever meeting between both clubs took place on Saturday 20th November 1926, the game ended in a 3-1 win to Southend, which also happens to be the same result the last time Coventry visited Roots Hall.

Coventry City were formed in 1883 meaning they are 23 years older than Southend United.

The two clubs have had several kit manufacturers over the years, but they have surprisingly shared two of them which are:

Nike

Southend United kit provider from 2003-present
