Southend United are delighted to launch the club’s first official eSports team.
Teaming up with the world's biggest independent 11v11 online football platform Virtual Pro Gaming (VPG), for the first time ever Southend fans will be able to take part in trials to be part of the official team.
The eSports team will consist of a squad of players competing in a professional league and cup competition and will aim to participate at the very top.
The team are currently in talks to enter the VPG (Virtual Pro Gaming) league and will aim to begin their journey to glory in the coming weeks.
Rhys Ellingham, Head of Commercial, said: “eSports is growing at a fast rate and it’s great for Southend United to be involved. Teaming up with VPG, who are already working with a number of clubs, allows us to hold trials to build an online Blues team.
“We are always looking to engage with our fanbase and this is a great way to do so and we look forward to featuring news and updates on our social media pages and on the official Youtube channel.”
Arron Dellosa, CEO of VPG said: “It’s fantastic to see Southend United enter in to esports with Virtual Pro Gaming, it’s great for fan engagement as many fans can take part and trial for the official esports team.
“11v11 esports is growing massively, as it allows players to communicate and work together, that is what football is about.”
