On Thursday night Southend United and The Shrimpers Trust were in attendance at the prestigious Football Business Awards after being shortlisted in the ‘Best Club & Supporters Group Relationship’ category.
Alongside six other football clubs, Cambridge United, Fulham, Portsmouth, Rochdale and West Brom, and their respective Supporter Group, the Club and the Trust were recognised for their tremendous work together over the last year.
In excess of £10,000 was raised for club legend Alan Moody, there was the ‘Wheels for Liam’ campaign alongside SUCET, ‘Amble to the Addicks’ for Havens Hospices, the continued growth of SUEPA (Southend United Ex-Players Association) and the Trust’s ongoing support for the Southend United Academy.
Claiming the award were Fulham, with Portsmouth second and West Brom third, however to be nominated was an achievement in itself and was a reflection of the good work that has gone on.
It wasn't to be for us this year, but there's always next!
