With the signing of Dan Bentley on 13 March, SUEPA’s membership reached the 100-mark, a remarkable start having only been launched just two months ago.
And it is not stopping there – the very next signing was none other than another superb Blues shot-stopper, Paul Sansome!
SUEPA was formed back in January, under the umbrella of The Shrimpers Trust, with the aim of re-kindling relationships between ex-players (and coaching/backroom staff), the club and the fans.
Its success has been built on its Twitter feed and a five-star rated Facebook page which have nearly 900 and 500 followers respectively – items appear there for every new signing made together with pictures and other memories, and the fans are heaping praise on the initiative.
“I love it, the chance to reconnect with former heroes is brilliant” is just one of the many comments received.
The signing of Sammy meant that the SUEPA squad is now made up of 13 goalkeepers, 24 defenders, 39 midfielders, 22 strikers and three former members of the coaching/backroom team.
The full list is available on the SUEPA Facebook page, though if you would like to see a short video of the first 100 SUEPA signings you can find it by clicking here.
SUEPA also held a mini re-union just before our match with Walsall in re-uniting after 51 years two ex-Shrimper team mates from the 1960’s, David Allaway and Frank Matthews.
A larger event is currently being considered for our match versus MK Dons next month, news on that to follow nearer the time.
