13 March 2018

Tonight’s Sky Bet League One game against Rochdale will be refereed by Eddie Ilderton…

This evenings fixture at the Spotland Stadium will be Ilderton’s eighth game in charge of Blues.

Ilderton was selected as the referee for the original fixture and has once again been picked for tonight's game.

His last Southend match that he officiated was came last season, when Blues visited Fleetwood Town in the league. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, with five yellow cards being brandished, of which three went to Blues players who were Adam Thompson, Michael Timlin and Will Atkinson.

Last season Ilderton took charge of 17 EFL Football League games and one EFL Trophy game showing 52 yellow cards and three red cards throughout the season.

This season he has officiated just 23 games, with his last match coming last weekend when Northampton Town held Bristol Rovers to a 1-1 draw.

He brandished four yellow cards and one red card in the game, bringing his tally of total cards shown up to 1,191 yellow cards and 72 red cards since his first game back in 2001.
