Michael Turner has signed a one-year contract extension at Southend United which includes the option of another year.
The central defender overcame a hamstring injury at the start of last season, which ruled him out for three months, to go onto make 26 appearances.
Turner chipped in with four goals last term, including the winner against Scunthorpe United in Chris Powell’s first game.
And he was delighted to be returning to Blues for the 2018/19 campaign.
“I’m really pleased to get it done,” said Turner. “The club made it clear to me at the end of last season that they wanted to keep me, so from that moment I was always looking forward to signing again.
“I was pleased with my year last year in terms of the amount of games I played considering the previous two years I didn’t play too much, so hopefully I can kick on next year.
“Coming here all I wanted to do was play games and be consistent again and I managed to do that after a slow start. I was pleased with how things went personally and I’m looking forward to coming back and getting going again.”
Chris Powell added: “His contribution at both ends of the pitch was fantastic for the team and for himself. He’s a leader in the way he plays, he’s very consistent, he likes to defend, but he also scored a number of important goals, none more so than against Scunthorpe.
“He trains diligently and prepares himself in the right way for games and I’m really pleased that we will have Michael next season.”
