We are delighted to announce goalkeeper Ted Smith has signed a one-year contract extension with the option of another year.
The 22-year-old came through the ranks at Blues and made his debut against Accrington Stanley in February 2015.
He has gone onto make 29 appearances in a Southend United shirt, the majority coming in the second half of the 2016/17 season.
Injury caused Smith to miss almost the entire campaign in 2017/18, but after signing his contract he told iFollow Blues he hopes to come back stronger next season.
“For me last season was a bit of a nightmare with the injury but I’ve had the operation so I’m on the mend and I’m just really looking forward to going and playing football again.
“It was a tough season for me but the operation seems to have helped and I’m on the mend.
“I’ve been working hard all summer in the gym to get fit and hopefully it’s in the past now.
“It was tough being in the physio room and seeing all the boys training everyday but I’m really determined to get back and have a good season.
“The club have been really good to me so hopefully I can go out and repay them.”
