On the eve of the Carabao Cup Round One draw we look back at our previous encounters in the competition.
Blues have played their last five League Cup opening round games at home, with no success in the competition since 2010.
The game was against Bristol City and once again at Roots Hall, but Southend were able to pull back from being behind on two occasions to run out the eventual 3-2 winners thanks to an extra-time goal from Matthew Paterson.
This time round Blues will be hoping for a much better cup run in Chris Powell's first full season in charge of the squad. They will be looking to improve their disappointing recent results in the competition:
