Blues Assistant Manager Kevin Keen was pleased with his sides determination and intensity against Bishop's Stortford...
Southend United came out 3-0 winners last night in pre-season thanks to a brace from Amadou Ba and a single goal from Theo Robinson.
And following the result, Keen gave his thought and views on a very positive result for the first team squad.
On the game
I was really pleased, I thought we started with a real intensity to our play and got after it. Unfortunately, we didn't get a break through early on but eventually Amadou Ba scored a wonderful goal from a free –kick; a great touch and finish and I thought overall especially for 60-70 minutes the more senior boys got a really good workout. They conducted themselves really well and will give the Manager a little bit of food for thought.
On the youth in the team
A few of the young lads played very well, I don't want to pick them out because I know they get jip from the other boys, but they did very well tonight. For me it's not about coming here and doing tricks and flicks, it's about doing your job for the team, doing it for the team and showing that you can do it at a higher level and they did well, and they didn't do their chances of getting a promotion into the first team any harm.
On the final pre-season fixture
Saturday's game at (Leyton) Orient will be a good test for the lads. We've played Leeds and Tottenham and we had less possession in both those games and I'm thinking that Saturday, I hope, we will be the team with the more percentage of possesion by the end of the game, but it's not going to be easy doing that at the Breyer Group Stadium.
On the two injured players
Sam (Barratt) picked up a niggle over the last couple of days so we are keeping an eye on him, but hopefully, we can get him, maybe even Timothee Dieng playing on Saturday.
