We caught up with Blues striker Simon Cox after the first two days abroad for the squad.
Here's what Cox reported back after two sessions in very got conditions on Monday morning and afternoon, starting with his thoughts on Saturday's first pre-season friendly against Great Wakering Rovers...
Were you happy with Saturday’s runout vs Wakering and was it good to be back out on the pitch?
Yes, it was great to get 45 minutes under our belts and dust the cobwebs away. Happy to get back to the movements of football and also nice to get a goal and an assist; hopefully there will be more to come.
What are the facilities/hotel like in Spain?
The facilities are first class, the hotel is lovely, the food so far has been brilliant and the football pitches are in great condition, so no complaints from anyone. It feels like we are being given the best they can offer which is great.
Any major talking points so far or any fines for turning up to the airport late?
We had Elvis [Bwomono] who left his passport on the plane when we arrived into Alicante so he had to go running back for that which I’m sure there will be some sort of fine (maybe tea maker for for the entire squad). We’ve had a few lates for lunch and dinner (Hendo, Theo, Macca, Kights) but it’s down to the management to figure out their fine. Again, maybe tea for everyone.
How are the initiation songs going and have any of the new boys had theirs yet?
Scotty, the new kit man, has been a great addition to the club but his initiation song was terrible! But it’s a great way to integrate himself to the players and staff. None of the new boys have sung just yet.
How have the new lads fitted in?
They are fitting in very well we have a good bunch of lads here so it will be easy for them to settle quickly, they have been great so far!
