Southend United are delighted to announce the signing of Tottenham Hotspur striker Shayon Harrison on loan.
The forward becomes Chris Powell’s first signing and he will remain at Roots Hall until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old has played for the Premier League side at all levels in the youth ranks since signing for Spurs in 2013, and has also made his senior debut in an EFL Cup tie against Liverpool at Anfield as a substitute.
Towards the end of last season, Harrison went out on loan to League Two side Yeovil Town where he made 15 appearances and scored one goal, which came in a 3-3 draw at Exeter City.
The striker will be eligible for Blues’ game away to Peterborough United this weekend, and after signing, Harrison said: “I’m buzzing to be here. When I found out Southend were interested in me I thought it was perfect move for me.
“I’ve spoken to the manager and he’s really keen on me being here and made me feel really welcome. People at Spurs have spoken to me about the manager and how he’s developed young players so I’m really looking forward to working with him.”
“League Two was what I expected in the physicality side of it. It was much different to U23’s football. I’m looking for a new challenge in League One and I’m ready to make that jump.
“I was injured at the beginning of the season but since I’ve been back I’ve played quite a few games in the U23 side at Spurs. But now I just want to play men’s football regularly and show what I’m about.
“I feel strong and good and can’t wait to get started.”
Harrison will wear the number 21 shirt for the duration of his loan spell.
Blues face Peterborough United at the ABAX Stadium on Saturday 3rd February, 3pm – if you haven’t got a ticket yet you can find out all the information here.
