Southend United sign Sam Mantom on loan from Scunthorpe United until the end of the season

31 January 2018

Blues are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Sam Mantom on loan from Scunthorpe United until the end of the season.

The 25 year old joins up with Chris Powell on deadline day, further strengthening the squad at Roots Hall for the second half of the season.

The Stourbridge born midfielder started his career at Walsall before joining West Bromwich Albion in 2010 as a trainee.

After making regular appearances for the Baggies reserve side, Mantom was offered a professional contract before spending time on loan at Haukur, Tranmere Rovers and Oldham Athletic respectively.

It was his next loan move where the midfielder shone at Walsall on two separate occasions before making the move permanent in January 2013.

Mantom made 129 appearances in all competitions, scoring 15 goals in the process and making himself a fan favourite.

In June 2016, he signed for Sky Bet League One side Scunthorpe United and has made 46 appearances since joining The Iron.
