Southend United are backing Safer Internet Day 2018

6 February 2018

Southend United have added its support to a global awareness campaign and is encouraging fans to ‘Create, Connect and Share Respect’ to help make the internet a better place this Safer Internet Day.

Today (Tuesday 6th February 2018), millions across the UK and globally will be celebrating Safer Internet Day and Southend United have pledged its support along with hundreds of schools and organisations.

Coordinated by the UK Safer Internet Centre, the day is a great opportunity to talk to your family and friends about the responsible, respectful, critical and creative use of technology, and to remember that ‘a better internet starts with you’.

Today the club are teaching our Community College students to stay safe online.

Tomorrow our Community team are holding a Girls Premier League kicks tournament along with Southend United Players. The girls involved will have the chance to compete for a trophy as well as learn about how to stay protected online.

Visit the UK Safer Internet Centre website here, where you can take the Safer Internet Day quiz, see what’s happening today, and find out more about what you can do to help your friends and family to stay safe online.

Together we can create a better internet

This Safer Internet Day the global theme is ‘Create, Connect and Share Respect: A better internet starts with you’ and Southend United are calling on fans to get involved. Here are ideas about how you can help to create a better internet:

  • Help your family and friends to have a positive time online by giving them the information they need to stay safe. See advice at
  • Promote positive messages online, whether this is by backing a cause, helping a friend, reporting abuse or by showing support for your football club!
  • Make the internet a better place this Safer Internet Day by taking positive action online. From liking your friend’s content to sharing kind messages, post online using #SID2018 and join the #ItStartsWithUs social media campaign by sharing what positive actions you are doing this Safer Internet Day.
