Goalscorer of Southend United’s third of Saturday’s 3-1 win over Wigan Athletic, Michael Kightly, says the team are bursting with confidence at the moment.
Three points to end the Latics’ unbeaten stretch of 16 matches also made it three consecutive wins for Blues.
That has resulted in a momentum change amongst the squad, and Kightly said they’re also showing the “ugly side” to the game to grind out results.
“We’ve got a bit of confidence about us at the minute,” he said.
“We took that into the game and I thought first half we were really good.
“We’re disappointed to concede the goal but the third one just killed it off which was pleasing.
“You can see the pitch is not great here at the minute and we’re playing it well at the minute.
“Teams come here and for whatever reason the pitch seems to catch them out a little bit. It’s hard to play good football on it at the moment and we’re playing it well.
“We’ve got some good players in our team but we’re showing we can do the ugly side to the game and that’s what we’ve been doing.
“We’re an honest group and we’ve built on the first result [vs Scunthorpe] under the new Manager.”
