Southend United are asking Blues fans to vote for their January DeVines Player of the Month.

You can vote for the following candidates:

Michael Kightly

Stephen McLaughlin

Jason Demetriou

Michael Turner

Michael Kightly has made his way back into Blues squad since his return from injury, playing in all four games this month. Kightly got his name on the score sheet against Fleetwood Town earlier on in the month. Then the midfielder recorded his fourth goal of the season with an equaliser against Scunthorpe United last weekend as well as winning the free-kick that lead to Michael Turner’s 90th minute winner.

Stephen McLaughlin has enjoyed another comfortable month in Blues midfield playing his part in four goals this month, the first came when McLaughlin burst into the box against Northampton Town winning a penalty that would be tucked away by Jason Demetriou to bring the game level, the next came later in the month when he provided the corner kick that was headed out to the feet of Kightly who went on to score against Fleetwood. McLaughlin then got his name on the score sheet against Scunthorpe last weekend, firing in a fierce free-kick that smashed past Scunthorpe’s keeper Rory Watson, putting Blues in front in a game for the first time since Boxing Day. Later in the same game he provided the free-kick that was pushed away by Rory Watson and into the feet of Michael Turner.

Jason Demetriou has provided several impressive performances this month as well as adding to his goal tally this season with a goal against Northampton. The right-back stepped up and scored his second goal from the spot this season, sending the keeper the wrong way and tucking the ball down the left-hand side of the goal in front of the travelling Blues fans.

Michael Turner has worked his way into Blues defence since his return from injury and January marked another good month for the defender. Turner featured in all but one game this month as he continues his run in the team and the hard work paid off when he slide into the rebound of McLaughlin’s free-kick scoring a 90th minute winner that secured Blues’ first win since Boxing Day as well as giving new Blues boss Chris Powell the best start to his Managerial role with Southend United.
