The Blues Academy Lottery is an independently managed fundraising scheme to help to ensure that Southend United Football Club continue to attract and retain their younger generation making a name in the Southend United Academy and on the pathway into the first team at Roots Hall...
By becoming a Blues Academy Lottery member you will have the opportunity to win some fantastic prizes, receive discounts and priority ticket purchase opportunities, while investing in the Southend United Youth Academy and creating a lasting legacy that will underpin future first team squads.
The money raised directly benefits the Academy and they’re already reaping the reward with the likes of Dru Yearwood, Nathan Bishop, Elvis Bwomono, Lewis Gard and Charlie Kelman (to name a few) being part of the first team set-up this season.
Behind the scenes, the Blues Academy Lottery money is being utilised at the training ground with a number of cabins improving the day-to-day running of the youth setup.
The top end cabins are being used for office space for academy staff, classrooms for the players to learn important education and more toilets which is assisting the academy in its continued growth.
Southend United’s Head of Academy, Ricky Duncan was full of praise for Blues Academy Lottery.
“The lottery has been excellent for us over the years and it’s been of real benefit for us, so it would be great to have even more people playing it,” said Duncan.
“We’ve been able to bring in more top end portacabins to help the academy, we have a new office, a classroom and more toilets so it’s been great.
“The more people that take it up the better and the more it will help the academy continue to flourish.”
Mick Maddocks, Blues Academy Lottery Chairman, said “Thank you so very much for the current members’ continued and loyal support of Blues Lottery and in turn the Southend United Academy.
“Our membership over the years, unfortunately, is on a steady decline mostly due to dedicated long term members sadly passing away or people who terminate their direct debit due to personal reasons.” stated Maddocks.
“The key cause is to raise money for the Academy which allows Ricky Duncan and the Academy team the opportunity to spend the funds raised where they need it most. This money is 100% ring fenced in a separate account and is used solely for the youth set up.
“I truly believe that since the portacabin facilities have gone in at the training ground, the Academy has not only achieved full audit compliance with the FA, but they have been able to flourish to a point where they’re going from strength to strength”.
The Blues Academy Lottery will be looking to grow the numbers by embracing the Commercial World and the Launch of ‘Commercial Blues Academy Lottery’; an initiative aimed at companies within the local and surrounding areas as well as further afield.
Companies will be able to purchase as many ball numbers as they wish for £120 a year each and they will be entered in the matchday draw to win money, hospitality places and signed merchandise.
