Updates on Lennon, Kiernan and Yearwood

9 August 2018

Chris Powell has provided updates on the fitness of some members of his squad.

Ahead of the trip to Plymouth on Saturday, Powell offered the latest on Harry Lennon, Rob Kiernan and Dru Yearwood.

On Harry Lennon…

We’re hopeful of getting some more detail to the extent of the injury and how long he’s going to be out for.

He did it in the second half and I’m sure the adrenaline got him through it. He was in some considerable pain on Sunday and Monday, so we got it x-rayed locally and it unfortunately came back that he had fractured it.

It’s a real big shame at the start of his Southend career, but once we get confirmation to give us exactly how long he’s going to be out for then we’ll deal with it.

On Rob Kiernan…

He’s not anywhere close to playing but he’s recovering slowly. There’s no need to rush. I don’t expect to see Rob training with us for another couple of months. It’s a long and slow journey for him but one he can make. He’ll be like a new signing if we can get him anywhere near the fitness he can get to, and hopefully he will.

On Dru Yearwood…

He’ll be sooner than Rob. He’s doing some light training, doing some running, I’ve seen him with a ball, not with the group, but that’s always a good sign.

There’s no rush. I want Dru to come back in the fold. He’s a few weeks away but he’ll be like a new signing having him back in because the impact he made last year.

On Mark Oxley…

He’s fine. He’s trained well this week. The group have trained really well this week, and Mark has as well.
