Southend United will be without summer signing Sam Barratt 'long-term' with a knee injury he has sustained.
Chris Powell revealed the devastating blow in his pre-match Bradford City press conference, but wasn’t sure exactly how long he would be sidelined for until further consultation next week.
“Sam’s got a knee injury which will be long-term so it’s a real disappointment,” said Powell.
“He’s had an early consultation, but he will have another one next week and we will find out the seriousness of it.
“I’m no doctor or physio and Ben Clarkson heads that up, but he’s saying it looks long term which is a real, real shame.”
The winger came on for his competitive Southend United debut and first in the Football League on the opening day of the season after signing from Non-League Maidenhead United in the summer.
Everyone at the club would like to wish Sam the very best in his recovery and hopes to see him back on the pitch as soon as possible.
