Last season’s Player of the Year, Mark Oxley, has been handed the captain’s armband for the forthcoming season.
Oxley was an ever-present during the 2017/18 campaign starting every Sky Bet League One game, keeping 15 clean sheets, including in each of the last four games of the season.
Blues’ number one avoided conceding in 17 games in all competitions, and he will now lead Blues out this season, starting against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.
After being told the news, Oxley spoke of his honour but said it won’t change much in his game.
“When the manager told me I was delighted,” said Oxley. “There have been some good ones at the club over the years, some that I have played with, but it isn’t going to change anything with me.
“My job doesn’t change because talking and being vocal has always been a strength of mine, and that wouldn’t have changed if I wasn’t the captain.
“It’s part and parcel of my job to be vocal, but it will be great honour to lead the team. I’m delighted and I’ll continue to try and do as well as I can for my team with my performances.
Chris Powell said: “Mark has been a real leader on and off the pitch since I’ve been here.
“He signed a new deal in the summer, he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the division and he has the right character and personality to lead the team.”
