11 April 2018

The second SUB Networking event was held at the offices of Paul Robinson Solicitors in Westcliff . A regular attendee from Lollipop-local digital marketing agency, gives us a taster of what went on.

There were even more attendees than the previous event with an electric mix of South East Essex based companies who all feel the love for SUFC.
One of the bonuses of an evening event is that networking can be accompanied by a glass of wine or beer.
This opportunity was embraced enthusiastically until it was time for our host, the fabulous James Sharples, to call us all to order.
James encouraged us to introduce ourselves with the now traditional handing round of a prop - an ice bucket into which we had to place our business card.
Encumbered by glasses of alcohol, cards and attendee lists, this multi-tasking posed a few problems, but we got there in the end.
Next, the event sponsors and 2017-2018 Travel Partner, Not Just Travel, tested our knowledge of geography. The sponsors had compiled a 10-question quiz that encompassed all four corners of the globe, as well as a mention of their Brand Ambassador.
I think it may have been the wine and beer, but the attendees produced a fairly dismal performance with the best score being 4 out of 10.
Dave Oram and myself had done the quiz together, but he volunteered me to take part in a tie break with Shane Hamilton.
Sadly, my lack of knowledge of the time it would take to fly from Southend Airport to Geneva let me down and Shane was the delighted recipient of a voucher towards his next holiday along with some specialist advice from Not Just Travel.
The prizes kept on coming! You remember the ice bucket and the business cards? Well Jeff Larner did the honours and drew out three winning tickets.
Diana Causton  won the top prize of a year's membership of SUB Networking.
Andrew Day won two tickets for a match and a meal in the Centre Circle lounge at Roots Hall.
And, yours truly was in the frame again with the third prize of a bottle of SUFC's finest bubbly.
If you're tired of dull and conventional team building events, this is the experience for you!
Escape Roots Hall is a 60-minute event for up to 40 people and incorporates challenging and varying puzzles specifically designed to promote problem solving, communication and teamwork, along with some friendly competition.
BUT!!! This is not just for large companies, James is also offering the opportunity for smaller companies with a team of five people to compete against other local businesses.

After all that excitement, there was still time for some more networking - especially as we were now able to put a name to the face for many of our companions.
The next event is on 24th May at Grosvenor Casino. James is looking forward to seeing you there.
