This weekends game will be Handley's fifth time in charge of a Southend fixture, with his last match being when Blues visited Doncaster on 7th October 2017.
He started his refereeing career in the Blues Square Premier back in 2008.
Since then he has gone on to referee games in League One & Two as well as FA Cup games and Checkatrade Trophy games.
Handley's last game came on 31st March when Walsall hosted promotion chasing Portsmouth, the visitors came out victorious thanks to 79th minute goal from Gareth Evans.
He brandished six yellow cards in the game, bringing his tally for this season up to 112 yellow cards and six red cards shown across 37 games.
