A brief look back at three games that occurred on this day in years gone by...

1990

Aldershot 2-2 Southend

The second leg of the English League Cup saw Blues win 4-3 on aggregate.

Aldershot scored both goals in the first half with Ian Stewart and Anthony Hopkins both on the scoresheet for the English Division 4 side.

The game had died down by half time and come the second half Blues had scored both goals.

The first coming from Brett Angell who headed home a corner and the second Andy Ansah who fired home from 15-yards.

 

2005

Southend 2-1 Oldham 

Two first half goals from Blues was enough to stop Oldham getting any points from the game.

James Lawson opened the scoring 11 minutes into the game with a perfectly placed shot that flew past Oldham’s Chris Day.

Blues second came from Mark Gower who latched onto a cross and placed the ball into the net on the half time whistle.

Oldham scored in the 69th minute which spurred an onslaught of attacks but Blues held on and secured all three points.

 

2010

Southend 2-1 Torquay

Josh Simpson scored the winning goal after a late goal from Torquay wasn.

Anthony Grant opened the scoring with a close range shot into the bottom left hand corner.

Josh Simpson scored Blues second goal two minutes before half time.

It wasn’t until late into the second half that Torquay scored with Chris Zebroski getting his name on the scoresheet.
