A brief look back at three games that occurred on this day in years gone by...


Southend 2-0 Chesterfield

Two first half goals from Blues forwards saw off Chesterfield on the third game of the season.

Dave Smith’s side opened the scoring 14 minutes into the half with the goal scorer being Stephen Phillips

Just before the half time whistle Michael Stead scored Blues second which gave the boys all three points.



Oxford 2-0 Southend  Blues suffered a defeat on the day putting them 17th in the table.

Steve Basham opened the scoring 26 minutes into the game scoring from a corner as he headed the ball down into the net.

The second came one minute into the second half, the home side caught Blues out from the whistle forcing quick play along the right wing with Dany Brown crossing in the ball for Paul Wanless to power it into the top right corner.



Southend 1-1 Oxford

Oxford scored from the spot to deny Blues all three points on the day.

Jack Payne opened the scoring in the 36th minute to give Blues the lead heading into the second half.

But in the 66th minute Adam Thompson tripped up Danny Hylton and the striker stepped up and smashed it hard and low into the bottom left hand corner.
