A brief look back at three games that occurred on this day in years gone by...

1992

Derby 2-0 Southend

The home side were victorious in the league after Blues beat them 1-0 in the League Cup three days earlier.

Marco Gabbiadini opened the scoring in the 25th minute after build up play from the back.

Keith Jones brought down Derby’s Tommy Johnson inside the box which left Paul Simpson to take the spot kick, which the midfielder fired into the bottom left corner.

 

2008

Southend 3-0 Leyton Orient

Two early goals and a late second half goal secured Steve Tilson’s side three points.

Lee Barnard opened the scoring in the first minute to give Blues a very early lead.

Lee Sawyer got his name on the scoresheet just 11 minutes later with a close-range shot.

Dougie Freedman scored the final goal in the 77th minute securing a comfortable win over Leyton Orient.

 

2015

Southend 2-1 Scunthorpe

Ben Coker scored the winning goal and created the other to secure Phil Brown’s side with three points.

Gary McSheffrey opened the scoring eight minutes into the first half with a curling effort.

Coker set up captain Michael Timlin who scored the equaliser close to half time.

It wasn’t until the 75th minute that Ben Coker burst down the wing and into the box to fire home Blues winner in front of the roaring crowd.
