A brief look back at three games that occurred on this day in years gone by...

1992

Southend 0-0 Portsmouth

Colin Murphy’s side couldn’t find the equaliser despite being the dominant side in both half’s.

Blues came close to scoring late in the first half with Steve Brown having his header breeze past the post.

Blues only other chance came in the 50th minute when Keith Jones took a long range shot which forced a save from Portsmouth’s Andy Gosney.

 

2004

NottsCounty 1-2 Southend

Adam Barrett scored both Blues goals to secure all three points for Southend despite a late goal from the home side.

Adam Barrett opened the scoring in the 28th minute to give Blues the lead, it wasn’t until the second half that the game saw another goal which once again came from the defender.

NottsCounty’s Glynn Hurst scored the home sides goal but they failed to get the equaliser despite an onslaught of attacks on Tilson’s defence.

 

2012

Gillingham 1-0 Southend

Ryan Cresswell’s foul in the box awarded Gillingham a penalty late into first half stoppage time which left Danny Kedwell to slot the ball into the net.

Both Paul Smith and Deon Burton were left injured after a collision in the 19th minute which led to nine minutes of stoppage-time.

Ryan Cresswell brought down substitute Bradley Dack in stoppage time which left Danny Kedwell to step up and take the spot kick which he slotted down the left hand side.
