A brief look back at three games that occurred on this day in years gone by...

1989

Southend 1-0 Torquay

A singe goal in the first half was all Blues needed to secure all three points.

The only goal scorer on the day was Roy McDonough who headed home Martin Ling’s cross from close range into the top right corner to give Blues all three points.

 

2007

Oldham 0-1 Southend

A first half goal gave Blues all three points despite being put down to ten-men at half time.

Leon Clarke was the only goal scorer on the day with a shot from inside the box in the 28th minute.

Blues defender Garry Richards was shown red after a harsh tackle on Lee Hughes.

 

2012

Cheltenham 1-3 Southend

Paul Sturrock’s side made it four wins in four after a disappointing start to the 2012/13 season.

Current Blues player Jermaine McGlashan opened the scoring for the home side 15 minutes into the first half.

Sean Clohessy scored the equaliser just before half time to put Blues in a better position heading into the second half.

Britt Assombalonga scored the second four minutes into the second half with Mark Phillips scoring the final goal in the 52nd minute.
