On This Day: 13th September

13 September 2017

A brief look back at three games that occurred on this day in years gone by...

Millwall 3-1 Southend

The home side scored all three goals in the second half to deny Alvin Martin’s side any points.

Jeroen Boere opened the scoring 18 minutes into the match which looked to be all Blues needed heading into the second half.

But goals from Ricky Newman and Richard Sadlier put Millwall in front.

Danny Hockton finished the scoring in the 90th minute.

Hull City 3-2 Southend

Despite an early goal from Leon Constantine the home side were able to beat Steve Wignall’s squad.

Constantine opened the scoring three minutes into the first half to give Blues the lead.

Danny Allsopp equalised for the home side just before half time.

Andy Dawson scored early in the second half with Stuart Elliot scoring the third later to finish the home sides attack.

Tes Bramble scored Blues second on the 82nd minute as he tried to spur the team on to get the equaliser but the game ended in Hull’s favour.

Southend 2-0 Portsmouth

Two second half goals from Blues strikers earned Phil Brown’s side a comfortable win.

Barry Corr opened the scoring in the 56th minute after Kevan Hurst’s corner was headed into the air with Corr connecting with the clearance to head home Blues first.

Blues second came in the 90th minute as Ryan Leonard played Shaquille Coulthirst through going one on one with the defender only to out-skill and round him which left the on-loan striker open against the advancing keeper as he placed the ball into the bottom left corner.
