A brief look back at three games that occurred on this day in years gone by...


Brentford 4-2 Southend

Despite equalising twice Blues failed to secure any points.

Gary Johnson opened the scoring in the first half with Blues Steve Phillips equalising just before half time.

Tony Mahoney score Brentford’s second with Phillips scoring the equaliser again with the forward looking to secure a third when he took a shot from outside the box which went just wide of the post.

Paul Walker scored both the third and fourth goal for the home side which meant Blues suffered a harsh defeat despite two come backs.



Southend 1-0 Middlesbrough

A late goal gave Barry Fry‘s side their third win in six.

Ricky Otto was the only goal scorer on the day with a long range shot that was set up by Jonathon Hunt who ran down the wing and cut inside to set up a ball for Otto to run onto and shoot for goal.



Northampton 2-1 Southend

Despite opening the scoring Blues couldn’t hold on to the lead and came away with no points on the day.

Blues midfielder Anthony Grant opened the scoring in the 56th minute but the players celebrations were short lived as Abdul Osman scored the equaliser for the home side only six minutes later.

Andy Holt scored the winning goal in the 76th minute to give Northampton all three points on the day.
