Michael Kightly says although it’s positive that Blues have only lost once in the league so far this season, they must start turning the draws into wins.
Against Plymouth, Gillingham and Rochdale Blues were unable to find a way to win, despite being on top for the majority in all of them.
And Kightly says there is more to come from this Southend side.
“I think we should have some more points than what we’ve got," he said.
“If we’d have turned two of those draws into wins, which we probably should have done, it would be a decent start, so there’s work to be done.
“We created enough chances in the Plymouth and Gillingham games to win them, but we didn’t. On the other hand, we didn’t lose them.
“We’ve only lost one game this season so far, so that’s a positive.
“We just want to turn those draws into wins.”
Charlton are a side in good form, currently in third place in the standings, and Kightly hopes Blues can show their best qualities to come out on top on Saturday.
“They’ve started the season well and I expect them to be in and around it come the end of the season.
“It’s going to be a tough game for us.
“Hopefully we can play well and show them teams that we’re a decent side as well.”
