The culmination of the Moody Blues campaign saw Alan, and his daughter Claire, visiting Roots Hall on Saturday...
They had a wonderful time, Alan being joined on the day by old team mates Tony Hadley, Paul Clark, John Walker, Ron Poutney, Frankie Banks and Warren May, plus seeing for the first time in decades many old friends and fans. Even the Roots Hall legend himself, Sid Broomfield, popped in to say hello.
Alan has been overwhelmed by the response of the fans in their tribute to him, and plans to send out a note of thanks soon. The campaign has truly been a superb effort by the fans coming together in appreciation of one of their own, and we applaud the action of you all in your support and participation of what has been achieved.
On the day a cheque for £6,248.17 was presented by the Shrimpers Trust to Alan but it is expected that the final total will be closer to £6,500 once all of the fund raising initiatives have been completed, which Alan will then use to go towards the cost of a specially adapted car.
Our proud history, and those who made it, are as important to the club as the present and our plans for the future, and the Moody Blues campaign has been a great example of this.
