Wordsworth expresses disappointment over Rovers defeat

9 October 2017

Anthony Wordsworth gave his reaction to the defeat, on the equaliser that knocked the team going into half time, and on the referee's decisions to show him a yellow card and Blues' captain a red card...

On the reaction to the defeat…

It’s a very disappointing result. We didn’t play well and it's the worst we’ve played since I’ve been here I think. It’s even worse because it comes off the back of such a good week as well which is disappointing.

On the equaliser which came on the stroke of half time…

The goal just before half time killed us really, if we went in 1-0 at half time it gives us something to protect, but it killed us and to go into the second half and concede so early on meant the rest of the game was always going to be an uphill battle.

On his yellow card and Anton’s red…

For me the player was over the ball and the referee didn’t blow for a free kick so I went for the ball as he was all over it.

I didn’t hear what was said to the referee at the end but it felt like if it wasn’t Anton that did something it would have been someone else as we felt the referee was against us in the second half.

We can dig out the referee all we want, but we played our part too and when it came down to a performance as a team we weren’t good enough.
