Phil Brown has a decision to make at centre back with Anton Ferdinand suspended and Harry Kyprianou out injured.
Kyprianou sustainted the injury in the first half at Doncaster last weekend, but Brown was reluctant to put a time frame on his return.
However, Michael Turner could be available to make his competitive debut for Southend, having not appeared since signing in the summer.
“Michael has been on the training ground for 10 or 12 days and he looks like he’s through.
“The last scan he had, which was about five or six days ago, was completely clear.
“It would be a high-risk strategy, but it’s one of my options.
“John White is obviously an option, changing to a back three is obviously an option, there’s lots of things going through my head but the players will have clarity come the end of training on Friday and hopefully that clarity will allow us to execute an operation that we can come away with a victory.”
On Kyprianou, Brown added: “Everybody seems to be hellbent on getting time limits and constraints about injuries and I’ve said that to my physio.
“Are we ever accurate with them?
“Harry Kyp has got a grade two tear in his rec fem. End of.
“The suspension to Anton came through and he will be missing for the two games and that’s an opportunity.
“Opportunities are coming along and they’re being grabbed by individuals such as Dru Yearwood, Elvis [Bwomono]; the youth have stepped up.
“I might have to do that again on Saturday.”
