Saturday will be Handley’s fourth Southend game that he will officiate. His last Southend game came when Blues visited Coventry City in League One on 31st August 2015 which saw him brandish six yellow cards in the game with four cards going to Blues players who were John White, Will Atkinson, David Mooney and Noel Hunt.
He started his refereeing career in the Blues Square Premier back in 2008. His first game came on 23rd August 2008 when Northwich drew 2-2 with York in a League game. Since then he has gone on to referee in League One with his most recent game coming on 3rd October when Chesterfield beat Rotherham 2-1 away.
Throughout his nine-year refereeing career he has shown 613 yellow cards and 26 red cards.
