5 October 2017

A brief look back at three games that occurred on this day in years gone by...

1996

Bradford 0-0 Southend

Despite going down to 10-men Blues held Bradford to a draw on the day.

Paul Williams was the only Blues player that came close to scoring with a close-range header that went just over the crossbar.

2001

Torquay 2-1 Southend

Southend United were unable to score a second equaliser as they battled to try and earn a point at Torquay.

Marcus Richardson opened the scoring in the 51st minute to give the home side the lead.

Carl Hutchings scored Blues equaliser just four minutes later to put the game level again.

David Graham put Rob Newman’s side a goal down again in the 62nd minute.

2010

Barnet 1-3 Southend

Matt Paterson scored twice as Blues beat Barnet in the second round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

The striker slotted in Harry Crawford’s cross from close range early on before the visitors had Bilel Mohsni sent off for a mass brawl.

Paterson added Blues second after a confusion in the box left the striker open to score.

Mauro Vilhete headed home a goal for the hosts before Louie Soares found the net with a left-footed shot that flew past the keeper.
