A brief look back at three games that occurred on this day in years gone by...

1995

Crystal Palace 2-0 Southend 

Blues lost 2-0 on the day but a 2-2 draw in the previous result saw Blues lose 4-2 on aggregate.

Jamie Vincent opened the scoring for the home side with a close-range goal in the 37th minute.

Leon McKenzie killed off the game with a 69th minute header that stopped any chance of Southend coming back to get something from the game.

 

2009 

Southend 1-3 Southampton

Three first half goals helped bottom of the league Southampton earn their first win.

The visitors opened the scoring only six minutes into the game when Neal Trotman stabbed home from close range.

Blues drew level in the 27th minute with George Friend’s curling free-kick, but Morgan Schneiderlin’s deflected shot restored the lead for the Saints’.

Lallana made it 3-1 when he raced on to the keepers long goal-kick and fired into the corner.

 

2015

Burton 1-0 Southend 

An own goal from Southend defender Luke Prosser gifted the league leaders all three points.

The home side almost took the lead in the first half when Mark Duffy’s shot wsa saved by Dan Bentley.

The Brewers went ahead in the 52nd minute when Tom Naylor’s effort deflected off of Prosser and into his own net.
