Southend United were saddened to hear of the passing of former player Ian McNeill last weekend.
McNeill played for Blues between 1962 and 1964, making 41 appearances.
The Scotsman was also on the staff at Bolton Wanderers with Bruce Rioch as manager when Phil Brown was a player.
He played for Aberdeen, Leicester City and Brighton before moving to Southend, before ending his career at Dover Athletic and Ross County.
As manager, he took Blues’ opponents tomorrow, Wigan Athletic, to the Football League in 1978 before joining Chelsea as assistant manager.
He would go onto manage Shrewsbury Town between 1987-1990 and ended his seven decades in football as a scout at various clubs.
There will be a minute’s applause before the game at the DW Stadium for both sets of supporters to show their appreciation of his achievements at both clubs.
