History Books: Blues V Pompey

Portsmouth v Southend

17 November 2017

We take a long look at the history books to see how we fare against Portsmouth...

The first time the two clubs met was in November 1920, Blues beat Portsmouth 2-1 at Roots Hall, the reverse fixture however ended 3-0 to Pompey.

Blues have been victories in there last five matches against Portsmouth, with the last defeat coming on 27th August 1996 at Fratton Park.

The two sides have faced each other 33 times, with Southend winning 10, drawing 8 and Portsmouth winning 15.

The last time both clubs met was back on 24th January 2015 which also happens to be the last time Blues visited Fratton Park, the result ended 2-1 to Phil Brown’s side.

The only cup competition we have faced Portsmouth in is the English League Cup, which we have never beaten them in.

In our last 10 games against Portsmouth we have scored 16 goals against them, with tomorrow’s opposition only scoring 13 against us.

Since John White has been at the club Blues have not lost a game against Portsmouth with him in the starting XI.
