Dean Whitestone confirmed as referee for Oxford United game

Whitestone will be taking charge of his second Southend game this season, with Saturday being his 17th Blues game that he will officiate.

The last time he took charge of a Southend game was on 19th August when Plymouth visited Roots Hall, with the result ending 1-1 after an own goal from Sonny Bradley and an equaliser from Ryan Edwards.

Whitestone brandished three yellow cards in the game, with Michael Timlin picking up the only card for Southend.

He has been refereeing for over fourteen years, starting his career in the Football Conference, then progressing up the leagues up until now with his highest appointment being in the Championship.

His last match came on 21st November when Yeovil hosted Notts County in League Two with the result ending 1-1 after a late penalty from Yeovil; he brandished one yellow and one red during the game, which has seen his impressive tally of cards shown go up to 1,250 yellow cards and 77 red cards.
