Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup Round 1 game against Yeovil Town will be refereed by Craig Hicks...
Last season Hicks brandished 70 yellow cards and six red cards across 27 games spread across the National League, FA Cup and the National League play-off final. He has been refereeing for four years and so far he has brandished 289 yellow cards and 13 red cards.
Saturday will be Hicks’s first Southend game that he will take charge of. However, it isn’t his first FA Cup game, his last and only FA Cup game came on the 6th November 2016, when Taunton Town faced Barrow, the game ended 2-2, with two yellow cards and a red card all being shown to Barrow.
He started his refereeing career in the National League in 2013. His first game came on 10th August 2013 when Tamworth beat Salisbury FC 1-0 away in a league game.
Since then Hicks has gone on to referee in League One with his most recent game being yesterday when Charlton hosted Fulham U21s in the Checkatrade Trophy which saw Charlton win 3-2.
