Charles Breakspear to take charge of second Blues game this season

This weekend’s fixture will be Breakspear’s second Southend game that he will officiate this season, bringing his tally up to 18 games in charge of Blues since the start of his refereeing career.

His last Southend game came on 26th August when Phil Brown’s side visited Gillingham, the result ended in a 3-3 draw after goals from Ryan Leonard, Michael Kightly and Simon Cox.

Seven cards were shown in the game, with all of them being yellow, of which four went to Blues players who were Stephen Hendrie, Jason Demetriou, Michael Timlin and Theo Robinson.

Breakspear has been refereeing for five years, starting in the National League, then working his way up through the divisions with his highest appointment being in League One to date.

His last game came on Tuesday 28th November when Wycombe hosted West Ham U21s in the final game of their Checkatrade Trophy Group. The game ended 2-0 to the Chairboys with two yellow cards being brandished as both teams received a card.

This has brought his tally of total cards shown up to 673 yellow cards and 43 red cards.
