Blues Academy Player Of The Past

Glen Kamara

15 November 2017

Glen Kamara started his career in the Southend United Academy, before moving to Arsenal’s Academy in 2012.

He progressed his way through the youth system at Arsenal before making his debut on 27th October 2015 against Sheffield Wednesday, in the League Cup Fourth Round.

In the 2016 January transfer window Southend signed Kamara on a half season loan, the then 20-year-old made his debut for Blues on 6th February against Essex rivals Colchester United when Southend beat the U’s 3-0.

Kamara went on to make six appearances in a Southend shirt before returning to his parent club at the end of the season. The following season he went out on another half season loan, but this time he went to Colchester United.

After a drop in league’s kamara hoped for more game time, and the youngster started the season well, but after falling out of favour with the manager he once again only managed to make six appearances during his loan.

At the end of last season Kamara failed to earn a renewed contract at Arsenal and consequently left the club in the summer. Kamara spent two weeks training with Scottish Premiership side Dundee, before earning himself a two-year contract with the club.

Since signing for the Dark Blues; Kamara has found a more regular starting spot, with the 22-year-old sitting comfortably in the middle of Neil McCann’s midfield. So far, in his first full professional season, he has made 19 appearances with 13 of those coming in the league.
